Houston, we have screenshots!

After posting these initial success posts, I have put together a simple (no 22 steps) guide here

And with *that*, we have screenshots. Once I finished doing my installs and updates, I ran ddms and had no trouble starting to capture all my screenshots.

So, here’s a quick summary people:

  1. Install the android SDK tools, then the platform-tools
  2. Edit your adb_usb.ini file to add the 0×1949 vendor ID at the end
  3. Ensure that adb is running properly
  4. Check that your device is online
  5. Run ddms
  6. Start taking your screenshots using the Device > Screen Capture option.
All credit here goes to the guys who developed these awesome tools in the first place. If I have screenshot further than other Kindle Fire owners, it’s because I have stood on the shoulders of Android hacking giants.

Where do you find the adb_usb.ini file?

The adb_usb.ini file is in your home folder in the .android subfolder. On the mac, that's ~/.android/adb_usb.ini. (Adapt as needed for Win & Linux.)

More details in the earlier post here: http://www.thefireblog.com/2011/11/16/hackage-basic-android-from-os-x/

That shows you how old I am. I see the acronym ADB and I think "Apple Desktop Bus".
